The “best” place to live often depends on who you ask. Some people prefer to live in smaller towns with nature at the door, while others prefer the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle. For some people I know, the best place to live is where they grew up. The comfort of familiar surroundings and friendly faces drives their choice. While other people I know believe that a place is desirable to live if it offers fresh opportunities and a new start, far away from their past.
There are many ways to judge what is the best place to live. 24/7 Wall St. made their list of the top 50 places in the country to live by setting a criteria of over 3 dozen socioeconomic measures including things like low crime rate, affordability, and a healthy economy. In their list of the top 50 cities to live in, Charlotte NC came in at number 26. (I would have rated it higher, but they obviously didn’t factor in friendliness)
Some of the main reasons cited for why Charlotte NC is one of the best places in the country to live are the relatively low poverty rate (13.4%) and high percentage of the population with a bachelor’s degree or higher (44.1% putting Charlotte in the top 25% for that category), as well as a booming economy. These factors have contributed to Charlottes growth rate of 24.7% over the past decade, and that is 3 times higher then the national average. They also mention that Charolette NC’s employment growth was more then double the national average being spurred by a health financial services sector.
For those of us that live here in Charlotte NC, it is no secret that our city is one of the best places in the country to live. It is also no secret that we have a lot of new people coming to town. Some of us may not be found of the extra crowds, or the traffic, but most of us are happy to see our new neighbors because we know that they bring the continued growth and prosperity our community needs.
